Work with Chameleon Camera Simulator

Start Vision Point or your custom application and open the Chameleon simulator first.

  1. Select desired image source and parameters on Simulator (image source, frame geometry, etc.).  Do not start image transmission yet.
  2. Start second instance of Vision Point or your custom application and connect it to the Frame Grabber.
  3. Click on "Detect cameras".
At this step grabber is expected to find one connected “camera”, which is actually Chameleon Simulator.
    • Note: From this point on (i.e. once the Frame Grabber is connected to the Chameleon Simulator) all settings, both for “camera” and grabber, should be changed from grabber side. This is because there is no back link from camera to grabber and any changes made on Chameleon side after “camera detection” process will not be automatically reflected on grabber’s side (although there is “refresh” button in grabber’s “Camera” tab, which one can click to forcibly re-read all parameter from camera again, but it is still better to make all changes from grabber side). When making any changes on grabber’s side they are pushed to camera over standard CXP protocol (relevant with all cameras, not only Chameleon).
  4. Start transition.
This step should better be done from grabber’s side.  In this case grabber will send “start” command to camera and also will get ready to receive video stream. Starting the process only on Chameleon side, the grabber will not receive any commands to start process on its side.  Similar, to “refresh” command, one can start process on Chameleon and then start it also on grabber, but it is not how you usually work with a real camera – in many cases there simply no “start” button on physical camera, one needs to connect to grabber and issue start command from grabber to camera over CXP connection.
  5. When clicking “detection” on grabber’s side it will implicitly stop any running generation on a newly connected camera, and this applies also to Chameleon, and one will need to start process again.
